VCS Won The Vancouver Rapid Team Chess Championship!


The Vancouver Rapid Team Chess Championship was a great success with 57 players from 6 teams playing short time control against each other. Each team played 10 intensive matches in the regular season spanned through 9 months, four teams came ahead to fight in the semi-final and final for the Team Champion title. The Vancouver Chess School (VCS) and the BC Juniors a.k.a Velociraptors, took out the UBC & SFU teams respectively in the semi-final, and went head-to-head in the final match. VCS has Maxim - one of the strongest player in BC, Butch - 2013 BC Champion, and two other strong juniors Mathew & Max. BC Juniors came in equally strong with 8 players, of which 4 are the 2013 BC Champions of their grades. One has to be impressed by the strength of the teams, both having an average ELO of over 2000. After the dust flurry settled, despite the undefeated result of BC Juniors in the regular season, VCS out ran the Velociraptors and proudly brought home the Champion trophy. Tanraj, Janak & Jack of the BC Juniors team and Maxim of VCS won the Top Individual Performance trophies. Butch of VCS won the trophy for winning the most game points. What an exciting & enjoyable season, all teams are looking forward to facing each other again in the next season.
