Grand Pacific Open tournament 2013
Hope all of you had a relaxing spring break and Easter holidays. For some of our coaches, volunteers and students, they spent the gorgeous Easter long weekend in beautiful Victoria, participating in the prestigious Grand Pacific Open tournament (GPO). About 106 players took part in the main event with players from four different countries, four provinces, and five US states. 13 players are at master levels. 6 rounds of games were scheduled over 4 days, plus a number of fun side events such as Midnight Blitz and Bug House. Big Congratulations to the following participants: coach Alfred Pechisker scored 5 of 6, and tied for 2nd place in Open event. ; Kevin Low scored 4.5, ranked 4th in U1800 category, and won 1st place for U1500; coach Gyan’s son Janak Awatramani winning the Midnight Blitz. Our coaches Butch Villavieja, Ryan Lo, Alice Xiao, and our students Max Gedovjiovic, Ethan Low, Brenden Wu, Daniel Du, Victor Zheng and Maven Zheng have put in their great efforts and had a memorable experience.
