Vancouver Chess Challenge Results
40 of our students participated in the Vancouver Chess Challenge on Feb 23. It was a big regional event with 186 players competing by their grade levels. Our students put in solid performance, and the majority qualified for the BC Chess Challenge. Congratulations to the following winners who were placed top 3 in their grade: Andrew Xu ( Gr. K – 1st); Jason Chen (Gr. P - 3rd) Lucian Wu (Gr. 1 – 1st), Aiden Zhou (Gr.1 – 2nd), Kevin Liu (Gr. 1 – 3rd); Kevin Low ( Gr. 2- 1st), Kevin Butchart (Gr.2 – 2nd), Jerry Zhang (Gr. 2 – 3rd); Nicholas Pan (Gr.3 – 3rd); Alec Chung (Gr.4 – 2nd); Annika Zhou (Gr. 5 – 2nd); Maven Zheng (Gr. 6 – 2nd); Karl Cui (Gr. 9 – 2nd). Janak Awatramani, son of our coach Gyan, was the Grade 8 champion. The winners of Grade 10 and 11, Ryan Lo and Alice Xiao respectively, are our wonderful volunteers who frequently attend our Friday Quads to do post game analysis for our younger players. Thank you, Ryan and Alice, for being great role models for the younger students. Also a big thank you to our coaches who attended the event to support our players.
